Logo First Draft

For my logo design, I decided to have my outline be the ‘home plate’ in baseball rather than a generic logo outline. I created the plate by the use of 5 separate line segments that intersect. Within the outline, I used the pen tool to outline a baseball bat and imbibed that into the lower half of my design. I copied the bat and reflected it in order for them to be perfectly the same and intersect properly. Beneath the intersecting bats, I created an outline of a pitcher to place evenly between them to fill empty space and give a more professional feel in my opinion. At the very bottom of the plate, I added “EST. 2019”. I got this because I have seen it countless times throughout my life in all sorts of stores, companies and commercials and to me, it gives a professional look to finish up a logo. One company that has a logo with this is TLB (https://www.thelostbreed.com/) and this is where the main sorce of ideas came from for me. At the top of the logo, I have my initials in large letters with the rest of my name in smaller letters following it, this idea came from Rijo Athletics (https://www.rijoathletics.com/) where they have the larger letters, but I added my own spin by completing my name. Along with all of these, i decided to create a baseball in the upper right hand corner of the plate. To me, this was the biggest challenge because i couldn’t find the right tools that i wanted to use so i ended up using the paint brush tool in order to create the lines that i wanted along with the colors that went along with the laces. The only thing in this logo that has color is the laces on the baseball, and i did this so one thing pops more than everything else, but it wasn’t something that was too big that looks like it was just placed there.

  1. Great work Connor! Your logo is very professional and will be easily recognizable. I like that your logo is contained in the home plate shape to illustrate the theme of baseball and that you included an “est.” as a design element that many organizations use to enhance the legitimacy of their brand or organization. My first critique is that there may not be enough color in your logo. You could experiment with the typography and add red to aspects of the wording in your image. Possibly making your initials (C.B.) as well as the “EST. 2019” the color red would enhance significant elements of your logo. My second critique is that there may be too many images within the logo. I really like the intersecting baseball bats as they add great symmetry to the image. However, I think that by keeping the baseball and the baseball player, this might make your logo a little busy. Maybe consider only keeping one of the two. Overall, you have a wonderful design and I can tell you were very intentional with every detail!

  2. Connor,
Your logo design uses your creativity to create an image that will remain in people’s heads because it uses several different elements. The strong point of your design is your use of negative space with both the baseball bats and the pitcher outline. For some points of improvement, I would suggest making the est. 2019 bigger because when it is scaled down it is hard to tell what it is saying. Also, one other quick fix I would suggest is to make the red stitches black because the red throws off the consistency of the design and logo. Besides those two things, I think that your design was well thought out and stayed on theme with your “mission” and “company”. I appreciate your willingness to improvise as shown in your blog post because you said you could not find the tool you needed so you used something else and it turned out well.

  3. After reviewing my piece, there are a few things that I would like to critique and change about the logo. One thing that I would like to change would be the outline. I will keep the idea of the home plate, but I would like to make it thicker and overall, more prominent. A second thing that I would like to change would be the inner laces on the baseball. Right now they are black, and the horizontal laces are red and I would like to fix that. A minor detail that I will also fix is that ‘baseball’ in the lower left is touching one of the bats and It makes the logo look unprofessional, so I will adjust the text. Along with that, I would like to play around with the idea of changing the font on ‘baseball facility’ because to me it just looks overcrowded and like I am doing to much with the logo.

  4. I think your design is very clean and free of unnecessary flair which helps it to be both readable and standout. The text is both eye-catching but readable from a distance which is good but I would suggest maybe changing the color of a portion of it to give your logo some more pop, I think the unique frame you used also helps your logo to be I eye-catching but It does necessitate a white background which can make it difficult for people to engage with your design so I would suggest maybe adding a colored background behind the home plate. Overall I think your design is both unique and looks good you just need to make a few minor adjustments to allow to stand out a bit more.
