Reflection

Throughout this course, there are many projects that I enjoyed. My favorite project had to be the graphic design project. I enjoyed this project for many reasons, but mainly because I got to have complete freedom of what I wanted to do and I got to design a poster however I wanted. I also really enjoyed this because I think it was my best project as a whole. In the process of this course, I learned how to use any adobe software. I learned Photoshop, illustration, audition and I learned how to work a constant blog. In my future, if baseball does not work out, I would like to do something with sports in the sports media field that has to do with creation and where I can get free range of making products. I would like to do that or something along the lines of public speaking or broadcasting. I would like to do this for two main reasons. The first reason being that I would want to stay along the sports path. I have always been involved in sport and I would love to continue. The second reason is that I enjoy public speaking and talking to a large audience and I believe that with practice, I would get much better and hopefully be able to make a career out of it.  One skill that I would have liked to learn more about would be audio, weather it be speaking or editing the audio. I think this could and would be beneficial to the course especially with the last project that we did. I used YouTube for some out of class material that was helpful when I couldn’t find out how to properly work a specific tool or section of the tool. As a whole, I really enjoyed this class and all of the content. Having this class be primarily online was a first for me and because of this, I learned how to manage this class and its work along with the rest of my classes.

Premiere Final

During this project, I thought it would be cool to have many different videos that show the process of traveling, along with practice film. I wanted to be able to show what it is like to travel with the WSU baseball team. There are many things that I did different from the first draft to the final. One very minor change was the transitions. Although the fade in and out remained the same, I added a half second period of black to allow the transition to be smoother and not have each video fade into each other without a nice blend. I kept the videos in chronological order, along with also adding some videos from our current trip, mixed with out past trip. This allowed me to get some shots that I wasn’t able too before. Another change / fix was the audio. In my original clip, the audio didn’t upload with the video. I don’t know the issue with that, but on the final version, the audio is clearly there and I feel like it makes the video much better than it was without the audio. The last thing I did was added a picture of the national championship trophy as a way to tie everything together. Some inspiration from this video was short cuts and b-roll from youtube videos along with horror movies. I liked this idea because I feel like it gives the video a more professional feel in my opinion. I decided to use this portion of our trip to focus on because I wanted it to feel as if I was bringing the audience on the trip and that they are there with us. I wanted them to feel like it was a first persons view of our trip.

This was the original outline.

Draft video

With this project, I tried to use multiple short clips of our travel (so far) along with some shot of practice and game footage in this film. I wanted to show what it is like to travel with the baseball team. One principle that I wanted to show was ‘clear hierarchy’. I attempted to show this my using longer videos of workouts and shorter videos of in game film to show what hard work does. There are still many things that I would like to add to this video sequence, but I have been unable to record them yet. During the process of editing, I made sure to place the videos in chronological order so the video didn’t seam to jump around. To emphasize the point of not jumping around, I decided to use the fade in and out effect. I used this in order to show that each video was meant to be placed next to each other. Audio Final

In my final project, I took into consideration all of my critiques and comments from my rough draft. There were multiple things that I ended up changing. The first thing was the sound at the beginning and the end of the audio. In my draft I attempted to add it on but it didn’t end up working, but I was able to fix this and add baseball sounds both at the beginning and the end of me talking. Another thing that I added was sound in the background of my main audio. I was able to record a 30 second clip of a practice and repeated this 2 ½ times throughout the main audio in order to have some background noise. I added this as a layer beneath the audio in Adobe Audition with the media maker. There was also some silence at the beginning that I ended up taking away. Another big thing that I got comments back on was the ending. The ending in the original clip cut out so I decided to end it earlier to have a smoother transition between the end and the sound rather than just coming to an abrupt end. I did this by clipping the sound bite back 12 seconds. I got the sounds from the baseball games on a website called https://freesound.org which is protected by the creative commons law. The overall inspiration for this topic was my daily life and what I do each and every day. I got the idea to talk about it from a podcast from ‘cutternation’ (which is a baseball podcast) and one of the guests talked about his biggest differences from college ball to pro ball. This gave me the idea due to the fact of how hectic and crazy our lives can be, especially when we are on the road.

voice draft

This narrative describes what it is like to be a student athlete here at Washington State University. I chose this topic because I have to live and breathe this lifestyle each and every day 24/7. I started off with this idea because of how well I knew what I was taking about. Being able to lay out everything about our day tends to be super easy due to the fact that we are on a strict schedule and each day seams the same because we tend to do the same things every single day. Our days our constantly filled and we have very little free time. We have to get up early each day to get lifting, go to class, go to practice, get food when we can, get our study hours in, get all of our homework done and we are on the road for 10+ weeks. There are so many things about being a student athlete that is amazing. You are part of a team, which allows you to have so many friends and people to look out for you. You have these friends for life and you will always be able to count on them when you need someone to help. The downfalls of this are all about timing. Being able to have a personal life can be really difficult for some people, so this stage of life is all about time management. For me, in High School, my time management skills were terrible. After my first semester here, my time management skills have been amazing compared to HS. In adobe cc, I decided to lay out my narrative and add the sounds to the beginning and the end of the talking to signal when it was finished. I edited some parts to get rid of awkward spacing, but for the most part, this is unedited.

Final Logo Project

For my final logo, I took in consideration from all of the comments that I was given. Most of the critiques that I received had to do with either color or based on how busy the logo was. One thing that I did was take out the baseball that was previously in the upper right-handed corner. I took this out for two reasons. The first reason was because to me, it made the overall logo look cluttered. Along with the logo looking cluttered, the word ‘baseball’ was already used in the middle with ‘baseball facility’ so I didn’t feel a need to keep the ball itself. A second change that I made was to create more color in the logo. I added a bright red to the ‘C’ and the ‘B’ in my name, along with the baseball player at the bottom of the plate. One minor change that I made was shifting everything either up or to the side in order to fill up empty space and to be able to make the ‘EST. 2019’ larger due to comments that I received about scaling. As a whole, I decided to create a thicker outline of the base in order to give the overall logo more pop. I felt that with a thin line, the logo was missing something but making it thicker gave it a better feel. My inspirations for the project came from two main companies. One company that has a logo that inspired me was TLB (https://www.thelostbreed.com/) and this is where the main source of ideas came from for me. At the top of the logo, I have my initials in large letters with the rest of my name in smaller letters following it, this idea came from Rijo Athletics (https://www.rijoathletics.com/) where they have the larger letters, but I added my own spin by completing my name. Overall, I tried to keep the logo very similar to my original one, but creating less clutter and more pop.

Logo First Draft

For my logo design, I decided to have my outline be the ‘home plate’ in baseball rather than a generic logo outline. I created the plate by the use of 5 separate line segments that intersect. Within the outline, I used the pen tool to outline a baseball bat and imbibed that into the lower half of my design. I copied the bat and reflected it in order for them to be perfectly the same and intersect properly. Beneath the intersecting bats, I created an outline of a pitcher to place evenly between them to fill empty space and give a more professional feel in my opinion. At the very bottom of the plate, I added “EST. 2019”. I got this because I have seen it countless times throughout my life in all sorts of stores, companies and commercials and to me, it gives a professional look to finish up a logo. One company that has a logo with this is TLB (https://www.thelostbreed.com/) and this is where the main sorce of ideas came from for me. At the top of the logo, I have my initials in large letters with the rest of my name in smaller letters following it, this idea came from Rijo Athletics (https://www.rijoathletics.com/) where they have the larger letters, but I added my own spin by completing my name. Along with all of these, i decided to create a baseball in the upper right hand corner of the plate. To me, this was the biggest challenge because i couldn’t find the right tools that i wanted to use so i ended up using the paint brush tool in order to create the lines that i wanted along with the colors that went along with the laces. The only thing in this logo that has color is the laces on the baseball, and i did this so one thing pops more than everything else, but it wasn’t something that was too big that looks like it was just placed there.
