My inspiration for this piece of work was the state of Washington, focusing on the city of Pullman. The main focus of this advertisement was to promote WSU baseball by providing a photograph of the team along with the home schedule posted at the bottom of the poster. Along with the photo of the team that I had outlined by of the state of Washington, I also provided two photos that I took myself. The photo on the top is a photo I took of the sunset by the Chinook and the second photo is when the sun was setting at the WSU water tower near the baseball field and recreation center. My original piece had a photograph of the sky that I found on the internet. I decided to change this part of my work because of feedback that I was given from my classmates. One critique that almost all of them had was to give the poster more of a “Pullman / WSU” feel by adding photos that show what it is like in Pullman and photos that I took myself. A second critique that I was given was to adjust the centering of the photo. In the original piece, there were a few heads that were cropped out and it made it look unprofessional. What I did to correct this was to drag the original photo down and to the left. A third, small comment that was made was to show where Pullman was on the map / state of Washington. I added a 4 pointed star and the city name approximately where our great city is located. The fourth and final critique that I was given was to make the game schedule easier to read, so I adjusted the color of the text from crimson to white in order to better complement the background of the poster.
I did my best to create a sense of unity among the photos and tried to get them to flow together and make each piece belong. I did this by adjusting the vibrancy and color of the background pieces to really get the team photo to pop and be the focal point of the piece. I also used the Eraser and the lasso tool to crop images and cut them down to the sizing and shape that was needed to make everything fit and flow correctly. I also used the quick select tool, the eye dropper tool along with the paint bucket tool in order to change the color of the text within the “PAC 12 CONFERENCE” at the top of the piece.  The original idea for me to create this piece was from a NIKE add that I saw. This add had an image and the NIKE swoosh around it, and I thought to myself “How cool would it be if they inserted a design into the swoosh” and seeing this, I was able to come up with this idea of having the state of Washington as an outline. I feel like this advertisement really embodies WSU, Pullman and the Baseball team with each image that was presented.

My inspiration for this design was the state of Washington. The main focus of the advertisement was to promote WSU baseball by giving a picture of the team along with the home schedule for this year. Along with this I added an outline of the state of Washington and a blue cloudy sky that shows what Washington is like. Throughout this process I tried multiple images both inside and outside of the state  outline to best determine what fit best and where it fit best. I did my best to create a sense of unity among the photos and I wanted to make each piece flow into each other. I attempted to use the power of color to really bring out certain pieces within the images. I added vibrancy and color along with diming it in other pieces. The reason for this was to really make the pieces pop. I wanted the focus of the piece to be on the players and their emotions. I also made the text and the PAC-12 logo the same color as the uniforms to unite the piece and make everything feel closer together. I did this to create a since of unity within the piece and to create a good contrast against the sky and clouds in the background. 


There were many things that inspired me to create this piece. The main thing that made me create this advertisement the way that I did was a NIKE add that I saw, and I thought “how cool would it be if they inserted a design into the swoosh” and this is where my idea came to add the team photo within the state of Washington. Once I added this, I wanted to capture what Washington has and what it is about, so I added a background of the blue sky and clouds. I did this because we have countless days where the sky looks like this, no matter how warm or cold it may be. I feel like this advertisement really embodies WSU, Pullman and the baseball team through each and every image.

My plan for this assignment is to create an event poster advertising the Baseball team for the university. I will be combining the cougars logo along with the baseball team and merging them into the WA state outline.

My Career Path

My blog will be consumed by the overarching topic of ‘ My Career Path’. For me personally, I have a unique and special opportunity to do what I love for a living. My goal is to play baseball at the highest level (MLB) and in this blog, i will take you along with me and show you what its like to be a NCAA Athlete. From 6:00am workouts to classes, practice, study hours, and travel, this blog will show what its like to be a Student-Athlete at Washington State University. I Selected this topic because I feel like i have a perspective that the majority of people have no idea about and the only way for people to understand what we do, is to bring them along.

I plan on collecting my materials through road trips, pre / post-game footage, along with photos that I will be collecting. I plan on doing a Video story that includes my daily routine, from workouts, to class, to practice. I also plan on coming up with a personal logo. All of my ideas for future projects have specific inspiration that range from Youtube Videos and creators all the way to my own personal life experiences. With each and every project, I will be able to show a different part of my life that most people are unable to see. There will be “behind the scene” footage, along with in depth material that will really show who I am, and what I do.

I think that it is important to be able to show the world what it’s like to be a Student-Athlete at a well known university. Athletes, especially at the collegiate level have a stigma and have a specific reputation due to past instances with other schools. I’m here to show what it is really like to be a Student- Athlete, and to attempt to erase or at least minimize the stigma that we have, and try to create a positive reputation for us.

My name is Connor Barison and this blog is to post the media content that I have created about specific topics for COM210. I was born in Seattle Wa, and I have lived in Washington for almost all of my life. I am currently a student-athlete at Washington State University where i will be studying strategic communications and playing baseball. My overarching goal in life is to be able to play baseball until I am no longer able to compete, but once it comes to an end, I would like to become a public speaker and help inspire others the way that I was inspired as a kid. Anything that I can do to change lives and give back is what I aspire to do. Some of my hobbies are to draw, read, play sports and listen to music. Along with these, I enjoy working with children in both a learning environment such as school, or on the field with baseball.
